KING JOHN

a Trent tale

King John’s reign was chaotic, disastrous and hellish. He was cruel and cowardly. He tried to renege on the rights afforded by the Magna Carta. In medieval Europe there were rules, especially how you treated the nobles. John broke them. He didn’t just kill. He was sadistic. He starved people to death.

Fighting battles of his own making, John became weak and sick. After losing his jewels in the Wash, he stopped off at Newark Castle on his way to the Midlands. He died at the banquet in the castle from eating ‘a surfeit of peaches’.

Or was he poisoned?
