THE TUNESMITH

 

It was jazz in his heart as Alan practised on the organ and the piano, later using his skills as a session musician and as a contributor to a library catalogue of memorable tunes. He was coveted and involved in over 7000 recordings.

 

Reminded that he had been tasked with writing the theme tune for a new television programme he went away and created “du de du de du, du de du de du, da da, da da da da”.

 

In the recording Alan persuaded a friend to play the final “bong” which is now so familiar to Countdown lovers.
